Intercar takes on the green challenge with an order of 57 electric school buses from Girardin

Drummondville, QC (October 13, 2021) – Girardin, a Quebec family business and leader in school bus transportation and electrification in Quebec, is proud to announce that it has come to an agreement with Intercar, in fact, its most important deal so far. The Saguenay region business leader will proceed with the purchase of 57 electric school buses including 51 Blue Birds and 6 minibuses from Micro Bird.

In the order of $ 19 million, this major order for electric school buses will serve both Saguenay and Quebec regions, there be of Rives-du-Saguenay and De la Jonquière School Boards. Intercar will also provide pupil transportation services to De la Capitale and Des Découvreurs School Boards.

This agreement will be fulfilled in instalments over a 3-year period and will start with the acquisition of 14 72-passenger buses ready to take on the road in the 2022/2023 school year.

Once all 57 electric school buses are delivered, this deployment will contribute to a reduction of close to 1 300 tons of GHG per year. This is made possible thanks to the financial support in the order of $ 8,55 million coming from the Plan for a Green Economy (PGE) and the Program for electrifying school bus transport from the Quebec government. Please remember that this program aims at electrifying 65 % of the Quebec school bus fleet before 2030.
